Ange Lea Alsop, 72, of Rankin, Tx. passed from this earth on April 11, 2026, at the Rankin County Hospital. Ange always said she wanted a celebration of her life so a memorial will be held May 30, 2026, at 11 am at the Tommy Workman park pavilion.
Ange was born on December 15, 1953, in San Angelo, Tx. to parents Vera McGilvry and Clayton Cox. She attended school in a few different places but graduated from Iraan High School in 1972. Some of her favorite stories to tell were about attending elementary school in Langtry, Tx. She met Jim Alsop in 1983, and they were married in Iraan, Tx. on December 16, 1983. She welcomed her only child, a daughter, Jonea in October of 1984. After being a stay-at-home wife and mother for a few years she made the decision to attend nursing school where she became and LVN. She stayed in nursing for over thirty-three years before retiring. She loved helping other people and animals. Helping was her calling in this life. After retiring, she followed her dreams of opening a food stand, Tater's. She loved being able to serve her community a warm smile and good food. Due to health reasons, she closed Tater's and fully enjoyed her retirement. Ange enjoyed many things in life, but her favorites were fishing, arrowhead hunting, and in her younger days, rodeo. She had many tales about her horse, Joe. She could fish and hunt arrowheads for hours and hours. Long after everyone else gave up she would still be at it. It would never fail; she would catch the biggest fish or find the best arrowhead because of her patience. In 2008 she became known as Mimi to her only granddaughter, and she absolutely loved being Mimi. She loved Taight with all of her heart and never passed up the chance to brag or tell a story about Taight. Ange has left a large void in many lives, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Ange is preceded in death by her mother, Vera Beatrice McGilvry and her father, Clayton Ellis Cox.
She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Jim Alsop, of Rankin, Tx., her daughter, Jonea Jackson, of Rankin, Tx., Her brothers, Jimbob Cox (Mirna) of Nixon, Tx., Clay Cox (Sheryl) of Abilene, Tx., her one and only grand-daughter, Taight Jackson of Rankin, Tx., as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Memorials can be made in her honor to any local animal shelter, The West Texas Boys Ranch, or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).
The family of Ange would like to express our deepest thanks to Allen Graham, PA. of the Rankin County Hospital District for taking on her care. We would also like to give our sincere thanks to the staff that provided exceptional care in her last days. We could not have asked for anything better for our sweet wife/mama/Mimi.
