Buddy Ross Sutherland, 93, of McCamey, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022, in McCamey.
Buddy was born on April 24, 1929, in Cisco, Texas to Farris and Victoria Sutherland. He had two brothers and five sisters.
He graduated from OHS and later completed his associate degree. Buddy served in the Army during the Korean War and was proud of his service. After returning from Germany, he married Charlotte Berry on July 10, 1952.
Buddy and Charlotte were faithful members of the Church of Christ for over 70 years. He was a dedicated employee with Phillips Petroleum for 33 years.
Even growing up in the depression and being very poor, Buddy never told a sad story. He would always say, “It’s been a wonderful Life.” He loved his family. Buddy loved watching his sons play sports. He was extremely proud when both his sons played football for Permian and won state, and later watching his grandchildren play a variety of sports.
Buddy loved fishing, hunting, traveling and always looked forward to his family reunions. Buddy was always a jokester telling the grandkids “I’m still prettier than you are.”
Most of all he was always so proud of all his immediate and extended family.
He was preceded in death by three sisters Carolyn Day, Bell Harris, and Betty Sutherland.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Charlotte Berry Sutherland, their three children, Gary Sutherland, Rick Sutherland and his wife Judy, Trena Kneupper and her husband Warren; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Farris Sutherland Jr., and his wife Martha, Melissa O’Harrow; Flora Hubble, and Richard Sutherland his wife Cathy.
