Charlotte Dean Berry Sutherland, 89, of McCamey, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the McCamey Convalescent Center.
Charlotte was born on November 2, 1935, in Ballinger, Texas to T.E. and Selma Berry.
She was a Radiologist and was always a loyal and dependable employee. Charlotte was a long-time member of the Church of Christ.
Charlotte was always there for her loved ones-offering love, warmth, and an open door. Her home was a place of welcome and peace, where family could always walk in without knocking, grab a snack and feel completely at ease. She cherished her family deeply and showed her love through thoughtful acts of care-like preparing hot meals and sweet treats.
Charlotte had a friendly spirit, a playful heart and a quiet wisdom. Whether it was letting her granddaughters play dress-up in her heels and jewelry or attending her children’s then grandchildren’s many sports activities or passing down her family values. She created a legacy built on love and togetherness. One of the most cherished traditions was singing “I love you, a bushel and a peck” by Doris Day to her grandbaby’s while rocking them. A simple song that perfectly captured the way she loved, wholeheartedly and without limit.
Charlotte was a whiz when it came to playing card games. Whether it was a friendly game or a fierce family competition, she played with skill, confidence and just enough mischief to keep everyone on their toes.
Her family was her greatest joy and the lessons she taught us – about loyalty, presence, and the blessings of one another will continue to live on throughout all of us.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Buddy Ross Sutherland; and her grandson, Jordan Kneupper.
She is survived by her children, Gary Ross Sutherland, Rick Sutherland and his wife Judy, Trena Kneupper and her husband Warren; grandchildren Tessa and Lee Morrison, Makaylie and Wes Wilson, Chanie and Alec Greco, Mathew and Jennifer Sutherland, Kayla and Angel Melendez, Nathan and Araly Vaughn, Kristin and Alex Ross, Rebekah and Kyle Hartman; 23 great grandchildren; and one sister, Gloria Berry.
