Darren Brown, 61, of Iraan, Texas, passed away on May 25, 2025, after courageously battling melanoma. He died in the town where he was born and spent his life surrounded by the people and community he loved.
Born on May 20, 1964, Darren was known for his unwavering integrity, quiet strength, and deep compassion for others. He consistently placed the needs and feelings of those around him ahead of his own, earning the admiration and love of family, friends, children, and animals alike.
A dedicated and selfless man, Darren lived a life rooted in service and hard work. He spent many years working as a Production Supervisor at Kinder Morgan, investing in the next generation of oil field workers. He volunteered as an EMT, served as Fire Chief for the Iraan Volunteer Fire Department, and gave his time and leadership as a member of the city council and as Mayor of Iraan.
In his quiet moments, Darren found joy in woodworking, building intricate wooden models, and collecting knives—hobbies that reflected his patience, attention to detail, and appreciation for craftsmanship.
Darren is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Sally Brown, whom he married on February 12, 1994. He is also survived by his children: Sean Holtzclaw and his wife Jessica, along with their daughters Georgia and Erin; and Jennifer Decker and her husband Justin, and their sons Mason and Brennan. He is survived by his father, Ray Brown, and was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Brown, whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind his siblings and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1st at Iraan First Baptist Church. Graveside services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2nd at Restland Cemetery in Iraan.
