Elizabeth Ella Mae Sherron Slater, 91, of Crane, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, in Midland.
Ella Mae was born on October 27, 1931, in Thornton, Arkansas. She was a longtime resident of Crane.
Ella Mae was as a newspaper carrier for the Odessa American and had delivered the paper in Crane from 1968 until she retired in 2001 at the age of 70. She also worked the local elections.
She enjoyed sewing and working in her yard when time permitted. Ella Mae was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1955. She taught Sunday School for many years and was happy to serve anywhere she was needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Sarah Ellen Bean Sherron, her husband Jimmie Glee Slater, siblings Betty Bernice Kneupper, Lemuel Eugene Sherron, and Betty June Reed, and grandson, Jimmy Glee Slater.
Ella Mae is survived by her three children, Jamie S. Vaught, and Glee Reynaud, both of Midland, Gene Slater and his wife Ginger of Crane; her one surviving sibling, her sister Lena Dutton of Lindale, TX; sister-in-law, Marilyn Sherron of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Michael Slater and John W. Vaught; and six great grandchildren, Ashley Michael Slater, Jordan J. Vaught, Joshua G. Slater, Jonathan Slater, Jaylah N. Vaught, and James W. Vaught.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 5pm to 7pm at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Tim King officiating. Burial will follow in Crane County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
