Doris Kay Joines, 80, of Crane, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Odessa Regional Medical Center.
Kay was born on January 18, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kay retired from the State of Arizona, working in the CPS office. In her earlier years of life, she was a foster mother and provided a foster home to numerous displaced kids for several years. She loved to work in her yard and plants in her pass time. She was a member of the Friends of NRA in the past. Kay was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Crane, TX. She also visited the First Baptist Church of Crane, TX with her friend/boyfriend, Mr. Doyle Rogers. They dated for about 7 years. Kay frequented going to the Crane Senior Citizens to enjoy lunch with Doyle and the other seniors there. She loved her cats, A LOT! Kay was a saved Christian and believed in the Lord.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Byron Leroy Brown, and Doris Marie Bottorff (maiden), stepmother, Thelma Brown; Siblings, Ron Brown, Barbra Kraus, George Bain, Michael Brown, deceased as an infant.
She is survived by her children, Darrell Wade Shelton and wife, Maria Shelton of Silver City, NM
Anna Marie Shelton and husband, Robert “Bob” Simpson of Pleasanton, NM, Travis Marshall and wife, Darlene Marshall of Crane, TX, and B.C. Sides of Lagunitas, CA; grandchildren, Kirstie Goins, of Lufkin, TX, Maegan Simpson, of Pleasanton, NM, Levi Simpson, of Springfield, OH, Trevor MacPhee and wife, Brianne MacPhee of Albuquerque, NM, Melanie Shelton of Albuquerque, NM, Lacey Duran and husband Nathaniel Duran of Rio Rancho, NM, and Wendy Christian and husband Ed Christian of Rio Rancho, NM; great grandchildren, Kimberley Christian, Oliver Christian, Londyn Duran, Remington Duran and Madilynn Duran, Destiney MacPhee and Serenity MacPhee; great-great grandchild, Persephone MacPhee; sister, Donna Jungerman and husband Harvey Jungerman of Mayview, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Interim Health Care and staff, especially LeighAnne Rodriguez and Taylor Salazar. I would also like to thank the staff at Odessa Regional Medical Center, especially the 4th floor medical staff and Dr. Hasaan for the care they provided her. I would like to think Sirena Allmon of Crane, Sonja Allmon of Crane and Tawnya Willams of Crane for just going by and checking in on her from time to time. Thanks to the members of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church here in Crane. Thanks to the Crane Police Department and Crane Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers that had responded to her in her time of need. Special thanks to the Crane PD dispatchers Jill Blackshear and Andrea Potter. Thanks to the local EMS crews that provided care to her in her time of need, and also to the Crane Hospital and Crane Rural Health Clinic.
