Obituary

John 14:1–6

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

With peaceful hearts, we celebrate the life of Lupe Ramirez, lovingly known as “Grandpa,” “PawPaw,” and “Wale.” On the morning of December 11, 2025, surrounded by the people who loved him most, Lupe finished his earthly race and stepped into the eternal arms of his Lord and Savior.

Lupe was born in Edcouch, Texas, on April 5, 1945, to Guadalupe De La Luz and Guadalupe De La Luz Ramirez. He grew up in McCamey, Texas, where he built a life full of faith, family, and hard work. It was there that he met his first wife, Dora Esparza, with whom he welcomed two children. After Dora’s passing in 2002, God blessed him once more with love when he met and later married his second wife, LuzElena—his faithful companion and partner in life’s journey.

For 38 years, Lupe worked at Oxy, earning the respect of his coworkers through his dedication and strong work ethic. But his true devotion was to the Lord. As a long-time member of the First Assembly of God, Lupe lived every day with a grateful and joyful heart. Worship was not just something he did—it was who he was. He had a passion for praising God, and his faith shone brightly in everything he touched.

Lupe embraced life fully. If he wasn’t tending to his yard, you could find him proudly cheering for his grandchildren at their activities, volunteering at the nursing home, traveling to new places with his beloved wife, or exploring the mountains with his metal detector. He lived life with curiosity, joy, and purpose. Above all, he was a shining example of a servant’s heart—always giving, always helping, always loving.

He is survived by his wife, LuzElena Ramirez, and his five children: Jaime Ramirez; Chris Ramirez and his wife, Andra; Andre Zarate; April Zarate; and Anthony Zarate and his wife, Vivian. Lupe’s legacy continues through his 11 precious grandchildren—Selena Walker, Lexi Fuentes, Marissa Ramirez, Armando Ramirez, Zaray Zarate, Jacob Carrillo, Ariana Carrillo, Alexavier Zarate, Matthew Zarate, McKayla Zarate, and Anthony Zarate Jr.—and through his great-grandchildren: Paisley Walker, Presley Walker, Dora Walker, Kayden Fuentes, and Kolt Fuentes. His love for each of them was deep, steady, and unmistakable.

Lupe was the third of five siblings: Tina, Stella, Licha, and Juan. He was welcomed into Heaven by his mom Guadalupe De La Luz Ramirez, his dad Guadalupe De La Luz Ramirez, and his older sister, Tina Melchor. He leaves behind his sisters Stella Ramirez and Licha Moreno, and his brother Juan Ramirez, who will forever hold his memory close.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Crane, Texas. A celebration of Lupe’s life will take place Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Crane Memorial Cemetery in Crane, Texas.

The Pallbearers will be Armando Ramirez, Colby Walker, Carson Fuentes, Cristian Guerra, Anthony Zarate, and Andre Zarate.

Lupe’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service. Though he will be deeply missed, the imprint he left on our hearts will remain forever.
