Melanie L. Spratt

Melanie L. Spratt, 57, of McCamey, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born to Lorenzo Spratt and Wanda Jo Brown, Melanie was deeply connected to McCamey and remained proud of her West Texas heritage throughout her life. A McCamey Badger through and through, she graduated from McCamey High School in 1987.

Melanie continued her education at Texas A&M University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in economics. She later earned her law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in Dallas and began practicing in 1994.

Melanie dedicated much of her professional life to the law and public service. Her career included family law, service as Upton County Attorney, municipal law, and economic development. She was known for her intelligence, determination, straightforward advice, and genuine desire to help others.

Melanie was also an entrepreneur, educator, and inventor.

She developed “Wash That Baby!”, an idea that earned a United States patent in 2015. Drawing upon her legal experience and personal journey, she later created divorce education, coaching, and meditation resources designed to help others navigate difficult life transitions with greater clarity and hope.

Above all, Melanie loved her family fiercely. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt whose strength, humor, guidance, and protective spirit will be deeply missed.

Melanie was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Jo Brown, and her cherished grandparents, Barbara Virginia Spratt, and Gussie and Lenora Brown, with whom she shared a special family bond.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Reevus Mitchell; her father, Lorenzo Spratt; her daughters, Ava Anderson and Julia Anderson; her sister, Marian “Muffy” Allsup; her brothers, Lionell Bunton and Dalen Spratt; and her nieces and nephews, Kaylee Allsup, Reagan Allsup, Harrison Allsup, Axel Spratt, and Ruth Spencer.

She also leaves behind a loving circle of cousins, extended family members, friends, colleagues, and members of the McCamey community. Melanie lived with courage, curiosity, and determination. She had a gift for recognizing when someone was facing something difficult and looking for a way to make the journey a little easier.
