With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Olga (Gaitan) Hernandez, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, April 2, 2026. She was born on October 4, 1956, in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Jose and Benita Gaitan.
Olga met and married the love of her life, Efren Hernandez, in McCamey, Texas. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion. From their union, they were blessed with two children, Benita Hernandez and Efren Hernandez Jr.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life reflected love, kindness, and selflessness. Her children were her pride, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and her greatest joy. She embraced her role as “Nana” wholeheartedly making sure her grandchildren always felt special, whether through small thoughtful gifts, their favorite snacks and drinks, or the many hours spent playing Skip-Bo, where she proudly earned the title of “Skip-Bo Queen.”
She will be remembered for her unique and loving ways—her special text or Facebook messages, her “secret sock,” her laughter, and how much she enjoyed listening to all the “juicy” stories. She had a beautiful way of making everyone feel cherished, cared for, and deeply loved.
Olga was a homemaker who took great pride in her home. She had a remarkable eye for detail and a thoughtful spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She never forgot a birthday, always checked in on loved ones, and made it her mission to keep her family close—especially after the passing of her beloved husband and her siblings. Her love was the thread that held her family together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Efren Hernandez; her siblings, Jose Gaitan, Manuel Gaitan, Maria Elena Flores, Maria de la Luz Gaitan, Aurora Gaitan, Elida Lara, and Ernestina Nasholm.
She leaves behind a beautiful and lasting legacy through her children: Benita (Hernandez) Esparza of McCamey, and Efren Hernandez Jr. and his wife, Crystal, of Odessa. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Yadira Esparza (Michael Anthony Gallegos) of Odessa, Adrian Barragan, Yanelie Barragan of McCamey, JoeAngel Juarez, Harlem Hernandez, Areilius Hernandez, Daren Hernandez, Elizeo Hernandez, and Kenyon Hernandez of Odessa.
Her legacy continues to grow through her great-grandchildren, Michael Anthony Gallegos Jr. and Azien Elezavier Hernandez, as well as her bonus great-granddaughter, Isabella Marie Gallegos. She is also survived by her sibling, Joey Gaitan, and lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, both by blood and by marriage, all of whom she held close to her heart.
Pallbearers will be Efren Hernandez Jr., Harlem Hernandez, Areilius Hernandez, Adrian Barragan, Joey Gaitan, and Francisco Gonzalez.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing she has been reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, siblings, and in-laws.

Though family chains are broken now, And nothing feels the same as before, We’ll honor you and honor how, You loved us—and we love you more. Rest gently now, our guiding light, Your legacy will always stay. You’re shining in the silent night, Our glue, forever, day by day.
