Roberto G. Marquez Sr., “Dad Beto” or “Welo”, age 82, of McCamey, Texas was called to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 25, 2023.
Roberto was born in Sanderson, Texas on June 16th, 1941, to Sabas Marquez Sr. and Guillerma Gonzalez. He married the love of his life, Carmen, in 1959. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 47 years and retired as District Supervisor. He also worked as a carpenter building houses and cabinetry. In his younger years he enjoyed traveling and playing the drums in a family band, “Jessie and the Starlights”. He enjoyed taking his wife to dances. In his later years he enjoyed going to the casinos, watching Women’s softball on Saturday, and watching the Cowboys play on Sundays. He also enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Houston Astros. He made sure to attend all of his kids and grandchildren’s sporting events because they were his favorite players.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carmen, his father and mother, sisters Rosa Galindo and Anna Mendoza. Roberto is survived by son LeeRoy Marquez and wife Eva, son Noe Marquez and wife Crystal, son Robert Marquez Jr. (Betito) and wife Priscilla, daughter Jessica Marquez, and his brothers Sabas Marquez Jr., Felix Marquez, George Marquez and sister Teresa Franco. He leaves behind several nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
We take comfort in knowing you are rejoicing in Heaven with Momo and having her dance in your arms again. Goodbye to a wonderful father and grandfather.
The viewing will start on Friday July 28th at 10AM and rosary at 7PM at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey, Texas. Mass time will be at 12 PM on July 29th at Sacred Heart Church also in McCamey.
