Steve McComb

Mr. Stephen (Steve) McComb, age 77, of Mertzon, Texas, passed away Sunday evening, May 11, 2025, at the Reagan County Care Center in Big Lake, Texas.

Steve was born June 14, 1947, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Paul and Wanda McComb. He attended Big Spring High School and then worked his entire life in the oil field with jobs from a floor hand to a drilling superintendent and everything in between. In 1986, Steve married Yvonna Chance Vick. He was a master of the BBQ pit and owned and operated McCombs BBQ in Rankin, Texas, alongside his wife for many years.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Paul McComb, mother Wanda Conner McComb, brothers: Paul McComb Jr., Richard McComb, and George McComb, son Jim Vick, and his wife Yvonna McComb.

He is survived by his son James (Skeeter) McComb and wife Melissa, son Stevie McComb Jr., and daughter Angela Golson and husband Murray. Steve is also survived by grandchildren: Ronnie Golson and wife Blanca, Julie Richards and husband Waco, Ami-lee Vick and partner Manny Hammonds, Ashely Vick, Bryan McComb and wife Hannah, Taylor Beaty and husband Jacob, Tabetha Bigham, Tanille Martinez and husband Paul, Patrick McComb, and Zachary McComb. Great-grandchildren include Payton and Ryan Golson, Elijah, Aniyah, and Ezra Hammonds, Bentley Pacheco, Reacher Friar, Owen and Morgan Beaty, and Lincoln and Lennox Martinez.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Rankin Cemetery in Rankin, Texas and directed by Nichols Funeral Home out of Crane, Texas.

The family would like to graciously thank Steve’s care team at the Reagan County Care Center and West Texas Rehab Hospice of San Angelo for their wonderful care and love of Steve and the whole family.
