Wanda Gail Damron

February 20, 1942 — November 21, 2013

Wanda Gail Damron, 71, of Rifle, Colorado passed away November 21, 2013 at the family home.

Wanda was born February 20, 1942 in Clovis, New Mexico. She was the daughter of John and Marguerite Landis. She grew up in Crane, Texas where she lived with her parents and sisters Johnnie and Shelia.

Wanda married Roy Damron in 1957. They lived in Crane where she owned and operated Fa Leon Beauty Center. In 1969, they moved to Rifle, Colorado. Over the years Wanda and Roy lived in Texas, Alaska, Washington, Arizona, Mexico and China, but she always considered Rifle home.

Wanda was an active member of the Church of Christ all of her adult life. She sewed baby blankets, delivered Meals on Wheels, taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and was a mentor and role model to many young Christian women. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, especially in church.

In retirement, Wanda and Roy travelled the U.S. to pursue his avocation, precision shooting. Wanda developed abiding friendships with the women in that community.

Above all else, she valued her family. She enjoyed skiing, camping, cooking, laughing and supporting her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved entertaining family and friends at her home, and she made the world's best cherry pie. She was the consummate care-giver. Even through her own struggles with health issues, she worried about and cared for others.

Wanda touched many lives. Whether she was known as Wife, Mother, Grannie, family, friend, or just that sweet lady, she always left you with a smile and a warm feeling in your heart.

Wanda is survived by Roy Damron, her husband and best friend of 56 years, their two children Connie (Bob) Dinning, Mark (Marie) Damron, two grandchildren, Sarah Dinning, Austin Damron, and Wanda's sister Shelia Wasinger.

Memorial services were held at the Mary Street Church of Christ on Wednesday, November 27th at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
