William Dee Locklin
July 25, 1939 - June 11, 2024
Bill Locklin, fondly known as Billy Dee by family and friends, went to be with our Lord Jesus on June 11, 2024 in San Angelo, Texas. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Nora and Dee Locklin, his wife Mary Lois Locklin, and his brother Ronnie Locklin. He is survived by his sister-in-law Lela Locklin, nephews Ronnie Dee Locklin (Mary), Roddy Locklin (Audrey), niece Lorri Minter (Bill), step daughter Tracy Smith (Dailon), and step son John Howton (Marsha). Bill was born on July 25,1939 in Fort Worth, Texas to Dee and Nora Locklin. When Bill was a young boy, the Locklin’s lived on the family ranch and then moved to McCamey. He graduated from McCamey High School and then served in the military. Bill completed basic training at Fort Polk Louisiana and then was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas and at the Army Air Defense at Loring Air Force Base in Maine.
After serving in the military, Bill returned to McCamey and began working in the oil field for 37 years. He worked for Buck Jones, Crystal Oil, and then was an independent pumper. Bill loved his family and friends. He also loved west Texas history, reading books, football and western movies.
Bill came to know the Lord and was baptized at the First Christian church in McCamey. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the cancer society, West Texas Boys Ranch, or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey. Graveside services will be held at 10am on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood, TX with Reverend Scott Melton officiating.
